Brogan's Rock Candy

Brogan has been very successful with her rock candy experiment. She has decided to share her recipe.

Please be careful. The sugar mixture is extremely hot.

You will need:

1 glass jar (she used a large one)

Some string (she used about 30cm depending on the size of your jar)

1 stick (she used a pencil) your stick must be able to balance over the jar opening

4 cups sugar (she used brown) you can use brown or white

2 cups water

Colouring and flavouring if desired

Bring your water to the boil

Gradually start to add a cup of sugar at a time. It must dissolve before adding the next cup.

Once all dissolved, carefully pour your mixture into your jar.

Tie your string to your stick and lower it into the sugar mixture.

Very important. Leave mixture undisturbed for about 5 days. Slowly watch the crystals develop. To reach this stage, she left it there for 2 - 4 weeks.
