Getting ready for Christmas

Today the children are off to Andrews office to hand out their annual treats. Brogan, Aaron and Olivia are planning to take Noodle and some Bunnies to make it a little more festive. It was a major baking day yesterday with all of us helping older sister with her baking. I have said before that it is clear our Brogan has her Great grandfathers genes. He had his own bakery and had a passion for confectionery. I have brought out our little series of " favourite recipes" for all occasions and seasons. The children also made these beautiful mosaic Christmas cards of Mother Mary and babe. Once they had finished them, we lightly painted over them with some brewed tea. We are feeling the Christmas spirit here . Today we will open our Christmas potpourri that had been sitting for a couple of weeks. Soon the smell of oranges , berries and spices will waft through the home. We are itching to start putting up our decorations...

A peaceful weekend to all my visiting friends...

Farming, Rome and little bits of emerging Summer

Aaron has been learning about farming and we have been concentrating on grain farming. Brogan has finished her block on Rome . We are having such fun with these blocks. We decided for baking today to bake "Roman army bread". We got the recipe out of this wonderful bread baking book called "Baking bread with children" by Warren lee Cohen. We love baking from this book. When the Romans went to war, their wives would gather sunflower seeds, grain, spelt and barley to grind into flour. This process took a few hours to prepare. So, these brave men would march into battle with very full tummy's. ....

I have to show off one of my gorgeous girls. Talking about grains and seeds, we feed them only the best pumpkin, sesame, linseed and sunflower seeds. She looks so healthy. Our Sunflowers are starting to pop up all over the garden. This is my Summer time sign ....
Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Thank you too for all the special kindness in your comments on the "Autumn " giveaway.

Baking Super Special Pumpkin Cookies

We found this lovely pumpkin cookie recipe in our Live-education kindergarten curriculum. They really are delicious. We tried to use organic ingredients where we could. Always tastes so much better

recipe:

1 cup of butter
1 cup of sugar
1 egg
1 cup pumpkin( we used butternut )
2 cups flour
3/4 cups chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoons of salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon.

Mix the butter and sugar together until creamy. Gradually add the rest of the ingredients . Spoon cookies onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 180 degrees (for us here) or 375 F for 10 minutes.

Some country baking

We had our baking day on Thursday and the children wanted to make their neighbour friends some gingerbread people. I enjoyed watching the team work . They also sewed little bags and goodies for them. They enjoyed every minute from start to finish.
