Our Spring Table and Rosh Hashanah

SHALOM ALE HEM .....(Peace be with you) Aaron has been spending most of his time this year studying the old Testament. Today is the Jewish celebration called Rosh Hashanah. It marks the beginning of the time of repentance and sacrifice. He baked along with his sisters a bread called "Challah bread" . He did a beeswax crayon drawing of a Jewish man blowing his horn. This is how the celebration is started. We did not have a horn so we started our meal with the deep blowing of the recorder. He also wrote out Psalms 37. Olivia painted a lovely white dove symbolising peace. This celebration lasts for 10 days. On the ninth day , they give what they have to charity. What he learnt , was that the Challah bread crumbs get thrown into a river or stream to wash away the sins. We love to celebrate with other cultures. We love preparing for celebrations. It adds such richness into our lives.

Our Spring table is the first thing everyone wonders over to in the morning. Its so colorful and fresh. We often add cut flowers to the table. Today we added our lovely cut asparagus. We have has such a lovely crop and have had quite a few meals from only two plants.

I wish you all a Wonderful peaceful weekend...

We, too, love celebrating with other cultures. It looks like it was a lovely day and celebration with your family.

The challah bread looks very tasty, and I didn't know that about the crumbs!

My daughter has been studying the Hebrew people this year too - I love hearing all the songs that she brings home - it is so lovely. We have lots of people in our lives celebrating Jewish New Year this week. Thank you for this lovely post.

Hi Suzanne
Thank you so much for sharing this. What meaningful, living learning Aaron has been doing for Rosh Hashanah. His illustration of the man blowing his horn is really striking. And that bread looks fantastic. I really love the beautiful pictures around your spring table too. Happy learning to you all.
Best wishes
Kelly

Hi Suzanne, We bake Challah all the time and LOVE it!We too love celebrating some of the Jewish feasts, as we have been 'grafted' into the Hebrew family we embrace the hebrew faith while giving thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ for His great sacrifice for us. Our neighbor behind is too is born again embracing Hebrew celebrations, they observe Shabbat each week and they blow the rams horn to mark the start. It is a great reminder! (sorry about the essay - got carried away -lol.)
PS Your spring table is lovely
